Schaeffler Automotive Aftermarket’s new FAG Wheel Bearing Repair Solution for Light Commercial Vehicles

Schaeffler Automotive Aftermarket is expanding its product portfolio with a new FAG wheel bearing repair solution for light commercial vehicles. Conceived especially for the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, Vito and Viano models, and for the VW Crafter, this new repair solution reduces the time it takes to remove and reinstall the wheel bearing unit by up to 60 percent. This offers garage owners a real benefit because if a light commercial vehicle needs new wheel bearings, only the wheel bearing unit itself needs to be replaced, and not the components connected to the axle bracket.

When a garage saves this much time, it has a very positive effect on customer satisfaction. As Mario Richiusa, Senior Manager Business Development Passenger Cars FAG at Schaeffler Automotive Aftermarket, puts it “Solutions that minimize repair times are an important factor in a customer’s purchase decision and in customer loyalty. This is because – for companies and fleet operators – longer repair times don’t just mean major delays, but loss of revenue as well.”

The core element of the new repair solution for light commercial vehicles is a Generation 2.1 wheel bearing unit with double-row angular contact ball bearings – all components in the same OEM quality FAG is famous for. This compact wheel bearing unit also possesses defined and pre-set bearing play, plus lifelong lubrication and sealing. Integrated as well are the wheel hub, ABS encoder and an innovative snap ring on the wheel hub side.

Because of its design and the way it’s mounted on the car, this wheel bearing unit cannot be removed and reinstalled using standard tooling. This is why Schaeffler Automotive Aftermarket offers a special removal / reassembly tool. Using this, repairers can apply pressure evenly on the wheel bearing outer race during installation, so that the snap ring securely latches into the groove.

For professional installation of the new FAG solution, a detailed installation manual is available in both print and electronic versions. It can be ordered in six languages (English, German, French, Italian, Spanish and Polish) and be downloaded at the garage portal RepXpert (www.repxpert.de).

Visual support for professional installation of the new product is available with the training video “FAG Repair Solution for Light Commercial Vehicles” that is available in six languages as well. This film shows the removal / reinstallation of front axle wheel bearings for the rear-wheel drive vehicles Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, Vito and Viano; and for the VW Crafter. Especially handy – the film material and installation instructions are included with the special tool case as a DVD.
